Vancouver South covers the southern portion of Vancouver. It is mostly residential and has some of city’s older and more prestigious neighbourhoods. The area is best known for its gardens and parks, such as VanDusen Gardens. Fraser River Park (8705 Angus Drive and West 75th Avenue) This is a local secret that has spectacular views of the airport. One can watch the planes come and go across the river. This park is popular for dog lovers, as its secluded location is perfect for letting dogs roam free. The park is large enough to have a big field for picnics and games, while the riverfront area has its own beach, depending on the tides. At the edge of the park is an industrial park and a golf course. Sunset is an ethnically diverse, working-class area filled with single family homes, low-rise apartments, and small retail shops. The area is an Indo-Canadian hub in Vancouver. Both Main Street and Fraser Street are vibrant shopping areas lined with many independently owned stores and restaurants. Sunset is in south-central Vancouver, east of Langara Golf Course, and slopes from the Mountain View cemetery down to the Fraser River. Sunset was one of the earliest communities to be settled in the Vancouver area. The first families to inhabit South Vancouver came to the banks of the North Arm of the Fraser River to farm, fish and log.
