Vancouver is a major West coast city of British Columbia, Canada. The 2011 census recorded 603,500 people in the city, making it the eighth largest Canadian municipality. The Greater Vancouver area of around 2.4 million inhabitants is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country, and one of the most ethnically diverse as well. Surrounded by ocean, forests and mountains, Vancouver is a popular filming location, often named “Hollywood North”. Skiing/boarding, running, hiking, biking and boating are just some of the many outdoor activities enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Vancouver has thriving art, music and theatre scenes, with various festivals taking place throughout the year. Cuisine in the city is known for its seafood, cultural mashups, environmental sustainability, and range from food trucks and bars to high end restaurants. Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life. The Economist Intelligence Unit acknowledged it as the first city to rank among the top ten of the world’s most liveable cities for five consecutive years. Vancouver has hosted many international conference and events, namely Expo 86′ and the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
